Bill Wehr: Damascus Coup on Tape. Kangaroo Court Strips Mayor Spinnett of Power.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT! DAMASCUS SIGN STEALER
Editor's note: This is a blog post sent to me by Bill Wehr, a Damascus City Council candidate. In the past few days the Damascus City Council President signed over to herself, with the fractured Council's blessing, the power to set the Council agenda. This is a responsibility reserved for the Mayor. Damascus residents might well be surprised that a fundamental change of this magnitude--switching the Mayor's duties to the Council President's--is done without a change of the charter or without the voters' consent.
THIS APPEARS TO BE A CITIZEN'S RIGHTS VERSUS METRO SHOW DOWN.
This is a nakedly partisan move in an election season that has seen more than 150 of Spinnett's signs vandalized or removed by perhaps people attending this meeting as you'll see.
Is this a case of cheating or stealing by the left? You be the judge.

Last Monday night the Damascus City Council went ahead and took away the Mayor's right to set the weekly agenda with the City Manager. This effectively turns the power over to Council to rule by fiat. I won't rehash what led up to all this, as you received an email prior to the meeting from me. What happened that night, with over 120 people attending, confirms it's going to be a long agonizing stretch from now until January. A new majority will reform this City government.

First:
A heartfelt thank you to all of you that traveled so far to attend and show your support. You took time away from your families, and for some your own campaigns, and campaigns for others, for that important night. It was precious time given to us. It will be remembered.

Our disenfranchised citizens of Damascus, that rallied yet again, to be there in solidarity with us as this travesty unfolded. There were others that came for the first time, that I hope have been awakened to what is happening to our beautiful City.

Next, I wanted to post several video clips of that night. Below is the hatchet job testimony of James DeYoung, of the Wescott Slate, from the prior City Council meeting. This testimony is on the heels of a slam Spinnett Oregonian Op-Ed he wrote along the same lines.

Mr. DeYoung has decided to go negative, I felt I needed to comment. Below is my testimony from last Monday addressing this. Unfortunately, you will hear me, not see me, as director Dan Speilberg Phegley kept the camera on the Council

The following one is somewhat long ( 20 minutes or so ). Included, in addition to my second testimony, is the lead up to the coup. Please note the Wescott Slate court jesters standing on the side that heckle, shout out, ridicule and rush the council table with finger wagging. The dude in the crocodile hat is Don Arbuckle. He is one of the Wescott Slate candidates for Council and tag team partner of Jim DeYoung. Mr. Arbuckle gave a stunning testimony last Monday night challenging citizens rights to obtain public records. I will comment on that later.

This is Important!

Mayor Spinnett and the POW team- Phegley, O’Brien and myself are strong and focused. All of us need to win to flip this miserable Council. Vote YES on 3-404.Tell your friends and neighbors.

  1. Or what the Mayor could have done, was for the first time during his term was show the ability to compromise. The action comes from the fact that the City Manager, does not feel comfortable meeting with the Mayor one on one. Something that I completely understand due to the Mayor's penchant for manipulation and fabrication. What if he suggested that one of the other Councilors were present during the agenda setting meeting? Well of course not, because that would be reasonable and would not let the drama continue to build. It's an AGENDA! Something that can be changed at the start of each meeting. It's not that big of deal, and the Mayor is making a big deal about it. The Mayor's supporters keep mentioning the word "power". The Mayor has no "power", and neither do any of the other Councilors singularly. He is one vote, as are they. His supporters can continue to try to use our conservative blogs, websites and radio shows, to meet their own means, but I can tell you, these folks are not conservatives, they are RINO's and they do our cause no help!

  2. On a side note, the Mayor and his supporters know exactly who it is in that picture. They will not tell you, because he has the permission of the property owner (who is battling cancer) to remove the signs that have been placed on his property (high visibility area) without his permission! And don't respond that the renter has given permission, because they do not have the right too. They have been told by the property owner. So Mr. Spinnett, the self proclaimed protector of "private property rights", where are the rights of this private property owner? It appears like many of the rules and laws that you have ignored, they don't matter.
